Shell Expands Retailing Network by Opening 38th Petrol Station for 2008
Kuala Lumpur, 23 December 2008
This auspicious event was officiated by Yang Berhormat Dato’ Shahrir Abdul Samad, Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs. Also present was Dato’ Mohzani Abdul Wahab, Managing Director of Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn. Bhd. and Shell Timur Sdn. Bhd.
In his speech, Dato’ Mohzani said: “Shell is the leader in petroleum retail market in Malaysia. We have the largest retail market share in the country. Earlier this year, we announced our plans to open 40 more outlets in 2008. Today, I am proud to declare Tiram Wawasan Enterprise our 38th opening this year.”
Managed by Encik Abdul Sani Faizal, this station is strategically located just before the toll heading to Seremban and adjacent to Mint Hotel, thus providing easy access and a convenient stop for motorists to fuel and stock up before continuing their journey. It now joins the Shell retail fuel network in offering a host of quality Shell products and services.
Committed to providing a means for motorists to save costs and at the same time address climate change issues, Shell has pioneered the development of high-performing fuels and lubricants that are more efficient yet economical for motorists, through numerous technology advances over the years.
Dato’ Mohzani said: “For more than 70 years, Shell has invested in technology that can offer our customers fuels that are specially formulated to reduce energy loss in engines.
“Both our Shell Super and Shell Diesel with Fuel Economy formula had been proven to help increase fuel efficiency, reduce motoring costs, and at the same time address environmental concerns due to carbon emissions. Similarly, our lubricants have been created to improve the energy efficiency of engines.”
Shell has also initiated various educational activities through its Shell FuelSave Tips and Shell FuelSave Challenge whereby motorists learn how to save fuel and get extra kilometres by choosing the right fuel and applying better driving techniques.
“Through a combination of improved driving techniques, good vehicle maintenance and most importantly, the use of Shell products, motorists can save 10% or more fuels while driving,” explained Dato’ Mohzani.
He added: “In this age of economic uncertainty, we want our customers to experience the full benefit of using Shell fuels with its fuel economy formula. With the launch of Tiram Wawasan Enterprise, we hope to give motorists in the surrounding areas, one more easy access to our fuels.”
In conjunction with the official opening today, the Shell FuelEconomy (FE) Simulator was also showcased as part of the fuel economy exhibition. Designed to educate motorists about the benefits of fuel economy in a tangible and entertaining environment, the Shell FE Simulator offers lessons in driving techniques, shares effective driving tips and how to apply them on the road. Shell also enlightened guests and customers with Shell FuelSave Tips to help them better manage their fuel usage.
Shell Fuel Economy Heritage
Shell is the world’s largest fuels retailer with about 46,000 retail stations in over 90 countries. Shell has over 100 years of experience developing the technology and services that make it a leading provider of innovative fuels today. In the 1920s Shell introduced Shell Dynamin, a fuel that offered some of the most advanced engine efficiency of its time. In the 1950s Shell fuel included a proven mileage ingredient, Shell ICA.
Back in 1939 Shell started the predecessor of today’s popular Shell Eco-Marathon, an annual competition taking place in Europe and America for students to build and drive a vehicle that will use the least amount of fuel. This initiative links to Shell’s responsibility as an energy company, to work to reduce the impact of its business on the environment. The 2007 edition attracted over 250 teams of young students from 20 countries. The winning team achieved a fuel consumption equivalent to 3039km on a single litre of fuel. In 2006, Shell launched Shell Unleaded with Fuel Economy formula and set a Guinness World Record for fuel economy by helping a couple from Australia, John and Helen Taylor, to circumnavigate the globe using only 24 tanks of Shell Unleaded with fuel economy formula. In 2007, Shell released its Global Fuel Economy Report, which revealed the thoughts of 3,300 people across 11 countries, showing people’s awareness of fuel economy and helping to understand what could be done to stimulate drivers around the world to get extra miles from their fuel.
