The centre is located in the grounds of Forest Research Institute Malaysia in Kepong, in the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur. It is supported by an annual grant from Shell and managed by the Malaysian Nature Society.
The centre aims to promote understanding, appreciation and conservation of the natural environment. It conducts various courses on the environment and the other nature-related activities which allow participants to study and experience the rich and diverse natural features of the surrounding reserve forest managed by the Forest Research Institute Malaysia.
Courses or education camps at the centre are open to the public, who may opt for a day camp or night stay at the centre dormitories.
Such nature camps often include a short course on forest ecology (daytime nature walks), astronomy and stargazing, introduction to fungi/mushrooms, freshwater ecology, paper recycling, bird watching, composting and caves ecology (trip to Dark Caves).
The centre offers these facilities: dormitories, audio visual aid, materials for nature course (modules, binoculars, microscope, etc.), and reference books on natural history.
