Environmental education programme

SERASI (Sekolah Rakan Alam Sekitar, or Environmental-Friendly School Awards) is an education programme and incentive scheme aimed at spreading environmental awareness and protection.

SERASI (Sekolah Rakan Alam Sekitar) is a well-received programme promoting the green message to schools in Sabah and Sarawak.

In Sabah, it is jointly organised by Shell and the State Environment Protection Department, the Federal Department of Environment-Sabah, Sabah Forestry Department, Education Department, Science and Technology Unit, Chief Minister’s Department,  the State Environmental Action Committee, and the Kota Kinabalu Wetland Centre. 

In Sarawak, Shell partners the State Ministry of Environment and Public Health, the State Education Department, Department of Environment, Natural Resources and Environment Board, Medical Department, Sarawak Rivers Board, Sarawak Forestry Corporation, Information Department and RTM.

So far, about 1,500 schools have taken part in the SERASI programme which rewards schools for outstanding environmental initiatives. Judging is done biennially, and prizes are awarded based on presentation, creativity and sustainability of the initiatives, which may include landscaping, recycling, composting and cleanliness campaigns.
