Twelve Malaysian motorists gathered at the Shell Station located at Batu Tiga (Klang bound) to battle it out for cash prizes totalling RM500,000 at the Grand Finale of Shell Select stores’ recent “Shop to Win” Contest.

Twelve monthly winners received RM1,000 cash each for the duration of the contest. These monthly winners who are naturally qualified as semi-finalists for the Grand Finale participated in the elimination round – the quiz challenge. The first 10 contestants with five correct answers then advanced to the Grand Finale where they were challenged to shop for specific products at the Shell Select store within three minutes. Finalists with all correct items win RM50, 000 each.

“It was quite an adrenaline rush. My heart was beating very fast as I raced through the aisles looking high and low for the items and trying very hard not to forget any of the items. It was the most exciting three minutes of my life,” said Mohd Azami bin Ghazali, Wilayah Persekutuan, one of the finalists who competed for the grand prize of RM50,000.

Shell is committed to rewarding its loyal customers and the contest was designed to reward customers for their continuous support and to experience our Shell Select stores.

“This contest symbolizes how we try to constantly look for ways and means to make life simpler, faster and quicker. We seek services to complement our lifestyles and this is exactly what Shell Select stores strive to do, making it convenient for customers to also pick up items on-the-go, when they drive up to Shell to fuel-up,” said Christine Liew, Head of Retail Marketing, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Brunei.

Shell Malaysia took this opportunity to give back to the community. Also present at the Grand Finale was Yeap Kim See, founder of The Little NGO from Kuala Lumpur, which supports more than 35 families who require financial assistance in Kapar, Selangor and single parent families from a residential area in Kuala Lumpur.

“The Little NGO’s mission is to help poor families break out of the poverty cycle through financial support for the children’s education, including tuition fees, books, school bus fares and food, to name a few. Thanks to Shell, the contribution we’ve received today will go a long way in helping provide essential items and lighten the burden of the families in our care,” said Yeap.

“We are pleased to be able to share this occasion with The Little NGO and the children. They get to experience this event with us as well as take home some goodies from the Shell Select store courtesy of our partners. We also hope our contribution eases their families’ situation somewhat and helps improve their quality of life, as they’re also part of the community we operate in,” added Liew.

At the Grand Finale, members of the media and family members of the finalists were also present to witness the exciting challenge and cheer on the participants. The contest ran from 8 March to 30 April this year and customers only needed to spend a minimum of RM2.20 on selected promotional items for participation.

Partners for the “Shop to Win” Contest include BonusLink, F&N, Kraft Foods, Nestle, Coca-Cola, GSK, Permanis, Mamee Double Decker and Kellogg’s.
