Shell LiveWIRE: Empowering Bintulu’s entrepreneurs
Aug 10, 2016
Shell continues to fuel Malaysian progress by building the capacity of young entrepreneurs in Bintulu.
Bintulu, 10 August 2016 - Shell Malaysia today concluded the inaugural Shell LiveWIRE Bright Ideas workshop in Bintulu.
Shell LiveWIRE is a world-class entrepreneurial programme, introduced by Shell in 16 countries all over the world. Since 1982, the programme has trained more than 10 million budding entrepreneurs and supported over 9,000 businesses.
The event was attended by the Deputy Bintulu Resident, Richard Michal Abunawas who also took time out of his busy schedule to present the participants with their certificates of completion. In attendance was also Muammar Quaddafi bin Abdul Razak, Public Relations Office from Bintulu Development Authority and the Nordin Mus from the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation.
Through the Shell LiveWIRE programme, not only do participants gain useful entrepreneurial skills through the workshops, they also stand a chance to walk away with a RM10,000 seed grant and dedicated mentoring for a year through the syllabus.
“The Shell LiveWIRE programme looks to be the boost to help spur on the Bintulu industry,” said Mr Tom Wong, General Manager of Shell MDS Manufacturing. “I believe that Bintulu is not short of entrepreneurs, but with the right coaching, some of the local businesses can go much further than where they are now. That is what we hope to achieve through the LiveWIRE programme.”
“Shell in its 125 year history in Malaysia has long supported the development of Bintulu’s talent. Now we can look forward to more local businesses opening up and strengthening the Bintulu economy,” said Tom.
