Shell empowers Malaysian entrepreneurs through Shell LiveWIRE
Jul 30, 2016
Shell continues to fuel Malaysian progress by building the capacity of young entrepreneurs in East Malaysia.
Kota Kinabalu, 30 July 2016 - Shell Malaysia today concluded its second Bright Ideas workshop, as part of its commitment to develop the capacity of the nation’s entrepreneurs through its LiveWIRE programme. Shell LiveWIRE is a world-class entrepreneurial programme, introduced by Shell in 16 countries all over the world. Since 1982, the programme has trained more than 10 million budding entrepreneurs and supported over 9,000 businesses.
The event was attended by Datuk Seri Raymond Tan Shu Kiah, Deputy Chief Minister and the Minister of Industrial Development for Sabah, who took some time out to speak to the participants of the workshop and take in their feedback of the workshop.
Through the Shell LiveWIRE programme, not only do participants gain useful entrepreneurial skills through the workshops, they also stand a chance to walk away with a RM10,000 seed grant and dedicated mentoring for a year through the syllabus.
“The LiveWIRE programme creates a conducive environment for budding entrepreneurs to secure access to capital, wider market networks, and knowledge from experienced entrepreneurs,” added Ian Lim, General Manager, Sabah, Shell Malaysia. “The results of this programme have already been proven in the five entrepreneurs from the pilot in 2015.”
Less than a year after their workshops concluded, these five Sabahan home grown businesses have more than doubled their number of employees. 2 of these entrepreneurs, Caroline Shirley Joimer of Borneo Native Herbs and Yudha Puji Yunianto of Martabaking, also attended the workshop to inspire the current participants.
“As Shell Malaysia celebrates its 125th anniversary this year, we look forward to building on our legacy of fuelling Malaysian progress through the LiveWIRE programme. I am especially proud of the fact that Shell continues to contribute to Sabah’s industry and the nation’s economy in a meaningful way,” said Ian Lim.
