Breaking barriers, building progress
Shafienie’s journey is a powerful testament of what determination, grit and excellence can achieve. Armed with a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Sheffield, she entered Shell through the Graduate Programme and quickly proved her capability in a highly demanding operational environment. Starting off as a terminal operations supervisor during her initial days in Shell, she not only ensured business continuity for an essential national service but also accelerated her professional certifications to keep operations running safely and seamlessly.
Breaking barriers became a defining feature of her career. As a transport engineer for Shell’s Road Transport operations across Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia, she led critical HSSE and technical initiatives with confidence and influence. Her leadership helped introduce pioneering technologies, safety systems and transport innovations that have strengthened industry standards across the region. Working with contractors, authorities, OEMs and industry peers, she built strong collaborations and created positive impact well beyond her immediate role.
Today, as the terminal manager of Shell Pasir Gudang at just 28 years old, Shafienie leads an all‑male team with clarity, empathy and conviction. She manages end‑to‑end fuel operations for the Southern Region, demonstrating that effective leadership has no gender boundaries. Her story is a celebration of women’s empowerment, proof that when passion meets opportunity, women not only thrive in traditionally male‑dominated spaces but elevate them.
