What is Shell Recharge?

Shell Recharge is Shell’s Electric Vehicle (EV) charging service, providing convenient on-the-go AC and DC charging to EV customers at Shell stations and key destination sites across Malaysia.

Our High-Performance Charging (HPC) sites are equipped with 180kW chargers that can charge your EV from 0% to 80% in just 30 minutes, depending on car model and capacity.

How do I sign up for to the Shell Recharge app?

  • Download the “Shell Recharge Asia” app on Apple App Store or Google Play Store
  • Tap on the menu in the top left corner of the home page
  • Tap on "Sign Up", then enter your mobile number, and 6-digit OTP received via SMS
  • Enter your personal details
  • A verification email will be sent to your inbox, tap on the “Verify Email” link
  • Return to the Shell Recharge app and wait for confirmation

What should I do if I did not get an OTP while logging in?

Alternatively, you may also login with your registered email address and password. If you have trouble logging in, please contact our Customer Support team.

How do I update my personal details?

  • Tap on the menu located on the top left corner of the home page.
  • Tap on “Edit Profile” to update your login password, name, phone number, and consent for marketing communications.

How do I add a payment card?

  • Tap on the menu located on the top left corner of the home page
  • Tap on “Payment“, then select “+ New Card” under “Payment methods”
  • Enter your credit or debit card details and complete the verification steps to add your new payment card

How do I top up my wallet?

  • To top up your wallet, you must first add a payment card.
  • Tap on the menu located on the top right corner
  • Tap on “Payment”, then select the reload amount and payment method
  • Tap on “Reload”, the amount will be charged to your selected payment method

How can I view my latest transactions, or get a copy of my receipt?

  • Tap on the menu located on the top left corner of the home page
  • Tap on “Session history", then tap on any transaction to view the details
  • You can also get a copy of your receipt sent to your registered email address at the end of each charging session.

Will I be able to reserve a charger prior to arriving at the Shell Recharge site?

Yes, you can reserve a charger in advance via the Shell Recharge app. A non-refundable fee will be charged for each successful reservation.

What if I accidentally selected the wrong bay number when starting a charging session?

You may cancel the session from the Shell Recharge app, then start a new session at the correct bay.

Alternatively, use the Shell Recharge app to scan the QR code located on the charger, to ensure you select the correct charger and connector each time.

How do I pay for a charging session? Is there a minimum wallet balance required to charge?

Option 1 – add a payment card to your Shell Recharge account, and select the card before tapping on “Start charging.” A pre-authorisation hold will be applied to the payment card before the start of the charging session, and any unutilised balance will be refunded to your payment card within five (5) working days, depending on your issuing bank.

Option 2 – use your credit or debit card to top up your Shell Recharge wallet with charging credits, and select the wallet before tapping on “Start Charging”.

Do note there is a minimum amount of Ten Ringgit (MYR10.00) to enable a charging session with your Shell Recharge wallet credits.

If a charging session is in progress and either (a) the charging amount exceeds One Hundred and Thirty Five Ringgit (MYR135.00), OR (b) your Shell Recharge wallet balance falls below the minimum amount of Ten Ringgit (MYR10.00); then the charging session will be stopped automatically.

Aside the charging fee, any other applicable fees including the reservation fee, idling fee, and taxes, will be charged to the same payment method used for the charging session, one a charging session is stopped.

Can I get refunds of the ewallet balance?

Any amounts of Ringgit Malaysia that you load to your Shell Recharge account (a) is strictly non-refundable and not exchangeable for cash or its equivalents; and (b) shall be forfeited in the event that your account is cancelled or terminated, or when your account remains inactive for a continuous period of twelve (12) months or more from the date of the last transaction, including but not limited to the absence of any financial or purchase transactions.

What happened to the parking barriers at Shell Recharge bays?

We have discontinued the usage of parking barriers at all our EV charging sites to provide greater convenience to customers. If you wish, you can still reserve a charger in advance for a fee.

How can I check on the latest pricing?

In the Shell Recharge app, tap any charging station to view the detailed kWh pricing for that charger and connector. You may also click on the link, “See other fees & taxes” to view a list of other fees including the reservation fee, idle fee, and free idling time.

How do I use the app in Singapore / how do I perform cross-border transactions?

The same Shell Recharge app can be used for EV charging in Singapore. When you are in Singapore, simply login to the app and select the charger as normal. The charging amount (in Singapore Dollars) will be charged to your card.

Why can’t I use my in-app wallet to pay for EV charging in Singapore?

Wallet credits can only be used to pay for charging in the same currency. Example, if your wallet credits are in MYR, it cannot be used to pay for a charging session in SGD. Please select a credit or debit card which supports international payments.

BonusLink Points collection is currently not available on Shell Recharge App until further notice.

What are idle fees?

Idle fees apply when your EV remains plugged in to a charger after the end of a charging session, and after the idle free time has passed.

Are idle fees imposed on all Shell Recharge chargers? What is the idle fee rate?

Idle Fees are applicable at selected Shell Recharge chargers in Malaysia and Singapore. To find out more about Idling Fee, tap on a charging station and connector, then tap on “See other fees & taxes”.

In Malaysia, idle fees are in Ringgit Malaysia and calculated on a per-minute basis (RM/minute).

Is there a grace period before the idle fee is imposed?

Yes. The idle fee will be charged once a charging session has completed, and the Free Idle Time has passed.

To check the Free Idle Time and Idle Fee, tap on any charging station in the Shell Recharge app, then tap on “See other fees & taxes”.

When is a charging session complete?

A charging session is complete when the vehicle stops drawing power from the charger. This can be initiated by (i) the driver, (ii) the vehicle, or (iii) the charger.

You will receive push notifications from the Shell Recharge app when your charging session is complete.

How will I be billed for the idle fee?

The Idle Fee will be billed to the same payment method used for the charging session. Tap on “Session History” in the Shell Recharge App to view detailed information on your charging session, including the charging fee, reservation fees, idle fees, or any other fees or taxes applied.

How do I know when I’ve incurred an idle fee?

When your charging session is completed, you will receive a push notification to prompt you to unplug your vehicle from the connector to avoid the Idle Fee. You will also see the Free Idle Time displayed for each active session on the Shell Recharge app.

To determine if Idle Fee was applied at the end of a charging session after you've unplugged the connector, view your charging session details on the Shell Recharge app under “Session History”, or the bill sent to your registered email address.

Prior to initiating a charging session on the Shell Recharge app, we recommend reviewing all fees and pricing details, including whether Idle Fees are applied, and the Free Idle Time, if applicable.

What if I do not have push notifications enabled? Will the idle fee still apply?

Yes, the Idle Fee will still apply even when notifications are disabled.

We recommend enabling push notifications on the Shell Recharge app to ensure you receive alerts on the Free Idle Time.

How do I enable push notifications for idle fees?
