Sustainability Efforts at Shell stations
Driving towards a sustainable future.
Shell Malaysia is embarking on a journey to a more sustainable future, fuelled by our ambition to reduce carbon emissions in our retail operations. This includes encouraging the practice of Reduce, Reuse and Repurpose at our retail stations.
Solar Panels
In January 2021, Shell reached another milestone with the installation of solar panels at 100 Shell stations, and another 51 stations in May. A total of 15,929 solar Photo Voltaic (PV) panels with a total capacity of 7.17-megawatt (MWp) were installed on the stations’ roofs, enough to power 1,853 households per year and used to run the stations’ facilities. These 151 solar-powered Shell stations can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 4,448 tonnes per year, which is equivalent to planting 79,185 trees*.
*A typical tree absorbs between 30 kg to 60kg of carbon dioxide, depending on its location. (Source: Calculated via a carbon dioxide calculator at www.mgtc.gov.my).

Shell Recharge
Shell Recharge is Shell’s Electric Vehicle (EV) charging service at our stations and other various public locations. In Malaysia, we partner with ParkEasy to improve electric charging with smart parking bays. Shell Recharge is also launching the high performance charging network equipped with 180kW direct-current (DC) chargers, the highest charging capacity in Malaysia capable of reducing charging time significantly depending on vehicle charging capability. Find out more about Shell Recharge.
Reverse Vending Machine for Recycling
Introducing the Klean Machine – a reverse vending machine that rewards customers with BonusLink points for recycling PET plastic bottles and aluminum cans at Shell stations in Malaysia. The collected recyclables are then transported to authorised recycling centres. Currently, you can find Klean Machines at Shell Taman Tun Dr Ismail and Shell SKVE Serdang (Kajang-bound).

Green Building Index (GBI) Shell Stations
Shell Malaysia is proud to announce the first petrol station in the country to be awarded the Provisional Gold Standard by GBI! The Shell Mint Hotel station features energy-efficient and water-saving features that can power an average of 382 households and supply water to 24 households for a month. Find out more about GBI.
