A pre-authorisation charge is a temporary hold placed on your card to confirm that it is active and has sufficient balance before the transaction is completed.
Why is there a pre-authorisation amount when I use my card at the pump (OPT) and what happens during the transaction?

When you pay at a self-service pump using your credit or debit card, a pre-authorisation amount is placed on your card to ensure there are sufficient funds before the transaction is completed.
The default pre-authorisation amount is RM200 (Visa/Mastercard) or RM250 (American Express). You may also select a preset amount or enter your preferred amount (in round figures) at the pump.
Once the transaction is completed, your bank will receive the final amount. Any unused portion of the pre-authorisation amount will be released, typically immediately. However, in some instances, it may take up to five (5) working days to be reflected in your account, depending on your bank.

| Yes, you can combine both fuel and in-store purchases into a single receipt. Please inform the cashier of your desired fuel amount (e.g. RM50) before making payment. For any underfilling when paying via card, e-wallet, or Shell App - Pay for Fuel, the unused pre-authorisation amount may take up to 5 working days to be credited back to your bank account. |
