Shell GTL Drilling Base Fluids
Shell GTL Saraline Drilling Base Fluids are non-toxic, as demonstrated by OECD 201, 203, 222 testing. Derived from natural gas, these multi-application synthetic drilling base fluids are custom-made to meet the drilling demands and challenges of the future, offering the lowest environmental hazard as reflected by OCNS Group E rating. Designed for safe and reliable performance, they are suitable for a wide range of conditions, from scorching deserts to subarctic temperatures, and from deepwater operations to high-temperature wells.

Rated “E” (Lowest Environmental Hazard) under OCNS4 (Offshore Chemical Notification Scheme). Approved for offshore discharge in Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Indonesia, Brunei, India, Nigeria, Dubai, and most recently, in China due to its extremely favorable environmental profile.
Safe Aquatic Ecotoxicity
Linear structure results in low toxicity to fish, invertebrates, and algae in water column and sediment toxicity tests. Does not bioaccumulate in marine organisms.
High Biodegradability
Readily biodegradable in both marine water (OECD 306 test) and fresh water (OECD 301F test). Significant onshore bioremediation performance evaluated for land farming applications based on methodology from Westbrook et al (2020).
