PETRONAS sign Gas Sales Agreement with Carigali, Shell
Mar 08, 2010
Sarawak Shell Berhad and PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB) today signed a Gas Sales Agreement (GSA) with PETRONAS for natural gas produced from three fields in Block SK308 offshore Sarawak.
Under the SK308 Gas Sales Agreement, Shell and PCSB will produce and deliver gas from the Shell-operated F28, F14 and E6 gas fields to meet the requirements of the MLNG Tiga Sdn Bhd’s liquefied natural gas plant, which is located within the PETRONAS LNG Complex in Bintulu.
The agreement was signed at the PETRONAS Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur. PETRONAS was represented by its Vice President of Exploration & Production Mr. Ramlan Abdul Malek; Sarawak Shell Berhad by its Managing Director and Shell Malaysia Chairman Mr. Anuar Taib; and PETRONAS Carigali by its Managing Director/CEO Datuk Abdullah Karim.
In his remarks, Mr. Anuar said, “This will further enhance security of supply to the PETRONAS LNG Complex which has the enviable record of never missing a cargo over the 27 years since its first shipment in 1983, and will help to meet growing global customer demand.”
Natural gas is the cleanest burning fossil fuel. In Malaysia, natural gas represents between 60 and 70 percent of Shell’s production - over 90 percent of this goes to the complex in Bintulu.
The PETRONAS LNG Complex is the world’s largest LNG production facility at a single location. It houses the three-train, 8.1 MTPA MLNG plant, the three-train, 7.8 MTPA MLNG Dua plant and the two-train, 6.8 MTPA MLNG Tiga plant and has maintained an unblemished record of over 6,000 safe and timely deliveries.
Shell has a 15 percent equity interest in MLNG Tiga.
