The accident resulted in the tanker catching fire, and the front carriage of the train derailing.

Relevant authorities were notified immediately. BOMBA arrived onsite within 15 minutes and was able to put out the fire at approximately 6.30 p.m.

Shell can confirm that the driver of the tanker as well as staff and customers at the station were unhurt. We are deeply concerned to learn that there are train passengers who have been injured in the accident. We are following the situation closely with the authorities.

As an immediate safety precaution, we have ceased operations at the petrol station until further notice.

The accident also resulted in a product spill and BOMBA is working to address the situation which is currently under control. Shell remains in constant contact with the authorities on the ground and is ready to render any assistance if required.

Shell will cooperate fully with the Police and relevant authorities in their investigation into the cause of the accident.
