The five – Chin Choon Fui, Tan Boon Seong, Mohd Arif Shobri Awang, Neela Muniandy and Soe Toong Fatt – all agreed that it was an eye-opening experience and wished that it had lasted longer than the few hours the packed itinerary had allowed.

Mohd Arif Shobri Awang, 35, a supervisor from Balakong, said that the opportunity to see how each Ferrari supercar was made by hand was unforgettable.

“Now I truly understand why Ferrari is such a desirable marque. It is handcrafted by artisans in a factory with an environment so clean that you can almost sleep on the floor.  We were also able to visit the laboratory to see how Ferrari works hand in hand with Shell to develop the right lubricants for its race and road cars. Now I am more convinced than ever of Shell Helix’s superior quality,” he said.

For Chin Choon Fui, 31, who has been using Shell Helix motor oils for his cars for the past two years and has experienced the difference in terms of performance and fuel efficiency, the visit to the Ferrari factory only reaffirmed his belief that his choice had been correct.

“After seeing the actual research and development work done at Maranello first hand, I am more confident than ever about recommending Shell Helix to my family and friends.  Ferrari uses and recommends Shell Helix for its cars.  That says it all,” he said. 

The trip to Italy marked a host of firsts for 37-year old homemaker Neela Muniandy from Kuala Lumpur. It was her first-ever plane ride and her first time to Europe and Italy.

“All I can say is that it was an amazing experience.  The country was beautiful and the visit to the Ferrari factory which was as big as Putrajaya, was eye-opening, especially the test track,” she said.

The five Grand Prize winners went on an all-expense paid Italian holiday worth more than RM20,000 each. The itinerary of the trip from September 6 till 10, 2012 included a visit to Maranello, the home of Ferrari; shopping in Milan; and catching the Italian Grand Prix at Monza.

For workshop manager Soe Toong Fatt, 58, who has been using Shell Helix for more than 20 years, there was one very important reason for his loyalty.

“Shell’s technical partnership with Ferrari is something special and I am convinced that we consumers benefit from it.  That is why I always recommend it to my friends,” he said. 

The Shell Helix ‘Get Your Heart Racing’ contest was held from March 15 to May 31, 2012.  It was open to customers who purchase a four-litre pack of Shell Helix Ultra fully synthetic motor oil or from the Shell Helix HX7 synthetic technology range that includes the HX7, HX7 E and HX7 Diesel. 

According to Ms Yu Li Ching, Brands and Communications Manager, Shell Lubricants, the Shell Helix Global Promotion had become a much-looked-forward-to annual event with its exciting interactive format and spectacular prizes.

For the past 60 years, Shell has been working hand in hand with Scuderia Ferrari in Formula One to develop high performance Shell Helix lubricants. From the beginning, the partnership contributed to a technological advantage over the competition as the pair developed products and technologies together for the race track that could then be transferred to the road.
