In supporting the efforts of keeping the community safe during this pandemic, Shell MDS contributed hygiene items to seven schools in Bintulu last week. A total of 120 boxes of face masks and 100 bottles of hand sanitisers inclusive of child friendly face masks and hand sanitisers were contributed to SK St. Anthony Bintulu; SK Tanjung Batu Bintulu; SK Kidurong II Bintulu; SK Kidurong I Bintulu; Kolej Vokasional Bintulu; SMK Kidurong Bintulu and SMK Bandar Bintulu.

Amir Bakar, Managing Director SMDS said, “We may not know for sure when the children will be able to return to schools, but we want to ensure once they are ready, the schools have enough stocks of face masks and hand sanitisers to help protect each other while in school.”

“We recognise the challenges faced by the teachers and the school management to upkeep the hygiene level of school facilities. Shell is committed to the wellbeing of the communities where we operate, and we hope our contribution will help lighten the burden of the schools in preparation for the new school year in 2021,” he further added.

Earlier over the weekend, Shell MDS together with Shell retailers contributed essential items comprising mineral water, food, beverages, personal care items, face masks and sanitisers to more than 200 flood victims and volunteers at the temporary Bintulu flood relief centres set up by the Bintulu Resident Office and the Welfare Department.

“The flood situation impacted every one of us in Bintulu including our staff, contractor partners and their loved ones. While we were grateful that our operations at the plant were not impacted, our concern was truly on the community members. Without further delay, we mobilised our staff volunteers to look into the items that the flood victims may need such as food, drinking water and not forgetting face masks and hand sanitisers. Mindful that COVID-19 could be within the community, our thoughts were to ensure we can help protect the affected people and go through the flood situation safely,” shared Amir.

Shell continues to do its part for Malaysians during this time. Shell urges all Malaysians to keeping safe and by practicing meticulous personal hygiene as advocated by Malaysia’s Ministry of Health. Together we can flatten the curve of COVID-19.
