Kuala Lumpur – During this uncertain time when the world is relentlessly fighting against the current global pandemic, worry and grim have engulfed us all. However, despite all these, life must go on. In the spirit of showing care and spreading joy this festive season of Tadau Kaamatan, Gawai and Hari Raya, Sabah Shell Petroleum Company Ltd (SSPC) and Sarawak Shell Berhad (SSB) decided to bring a little cheer to the underprivileged communities in Kota Kinabalu and Miri.

A total of 200 care packages comprising daily essentials like rice, cooking oil, sugar, canned sardines, tea and crackers were contributed to 200 families. These included underprivileged single mothers, homeless families and low-income families. The recipients were split between 100 families in Miri and another 100 in Kota Kinabalu. These contributions were distributed through the assistance of the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS), at both these states.
“COVID-19 has resulted in impacting and challenging communities around us, particularly those most vulnerable. Through this donation of basic necessities, we at Shell hope to provide some relief to this impacted group of people who are experiencing additional constraints in pursuing employment and managing their households, especially during the Movement Control Order (MCO). I would also like to thank MRCS for supporting us in this initiative,” shared Ivan Tan, Vice President Shell Malaysia Upstream.
“Additionally, as an essential services provider, we will continue to support our nation in the fight against this pandemic through our consistent provision of a safe and reliable supply of energy, besides doing what we can to ease the burden of the communities we operate in,” he further added.
As the ease in MCO takes place gradually, Shell continues to do its part for Malaysians in these times. Comprehensive set of protocols and procedures are implemented to help mitigate the risk of exposure and transmission of COVID-19 at all its work locations, in line with the requirements of the government. Shell is committed to creating a clean and safe environment at its retail stations by practicing various prevention guidelines to ensure the stations are safe for customers and site staff. These include hourly disinfection of high-touch areas and ensuring restrooms are regularly cleaned.
Shell urges all Malaysians to stay safe by practicing meticulous personal hygiene as advocated by Malaysia’s Ministry of Health (MOH). Together, we can flatten the curve of COVID-19.
